Striking 1960’s velvet and lace dress by iconic British designer Gerald McCann, one of the creators of the ‘Chelsea Look’ in swinging London. The empire line gives a nod to 1800's regency design, while glammed-up with a 60's twist, with brassy gold ribbons, black luxe velvet, puffed lace sleeves and sparkly buttons down the front. Zip fastening on the back.

McCann trained with iconic British couturier Harry B. Popper, designing dresses for royals and ready to wear pieces for Harrods. In 1955, he was asked by Mary Quant to stock her first Bazaar Boutique on the King’s Road. In 1963 he launched his own label with a £600 bank loan. His designs were sold in designer boutiques across the UK and Europe, and in the US at Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. He also played a very large role in the formation of Topshop, supplying many of their early designs. Many of his designs are now in the V&A’s collection.

Size S/8-10. Excellent condition.
